Hungry for More: The Fantasy Footballers’ Predictions for Week 2

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (14) greets the fans after they beat the Washington Commanders at Raymond James Stadium.

There’s nothing more upsetting than being left with an empty, growling stomach after the first week of the fantasy football season. Who wants to prepare for an entire offseason just to be let down and wanting more from a fantasy roster? Not this guy!

Luckily, Andy, Mike, and Jason have cooked up a menu of players they’re looking to see more from ahead of Week 2 in this week’s Hungry for More presented by Uber Eats! Every week the Ballers will be opening their takeout menu box and finding players that they think can take a step forward for fantasy rosters after being left with a growling belly from last week.

WR – Jameson Williams (DET)

Week 1
Receptions Receiving Yards TDs
5 121 1

Andy gets to start this week with a nice serving of “I told you so” regarding Jameson Williams. After two full seasons of disappointing fantasy output, Williams started 2024 with the biggest fantasy day of his career, finishing as the WR5, leading the way for the Lions’ passing attack even with Amon-Ra St. Brown on the field. Williams was used in a variety of ways by Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson with 75% of his 52 snaps coming out wide and the rest played through the slot, all while receiving targets at all three levels of passing depth.

While it’s unlikely that Williams will continue to out-target Amon-Ra, it should be encouraging for fantasy managers that took the later round pick on Williams that he can provide some value going forward for their fantasy rosters. In the coming weeks, the Lions get matchups against Tampa Bay, Arizona, and Seattle, all of which will be indoor games, and we know how the Lions like to perform when they’re in a dome.

WR – Keon Coleman (BUF)

Week 1
Receptions Receiving Yards TDs
4 51 0

The NFL debut wasn’t ground-breaking for Keon Coleman, but there was enough of a scent there that has Jason coming back to the kitchen wanting more this week. Coleman’s statline was fairly quiet for fantasy standards as he led the Bills’ WRs in snaps, targets, and yards in their win against the Cardinals. What may be more encouraging for Coleman’s first game is the number of ways Buffalo tried to get him involved in the offense, including using him to take a shot down the field which he converted for a 28 yard completion.

It’s likely that there are still some growing pains coming for the Bills’ offense to settle into their new personnel and personality, but Coleman seems to have the lead of the WRs that could be productive for this group. Even though the passing volume was low in Week 1 with just 18 completions on the day, Buffalo has good matchups coming in the next few weeks with games against Miami and Jacksonville ahead – teams that gave up 29 and 28.9 points in Week 1 to their opposing teams’ WRs. As we see Coleman getting more integrated into what the Bills are doing offensively, Jason is excited to see what it could mean for the rookie’s fantasy production for fantasy managers.

WR – Chris Godwin (TB)

Week 1
Receptions Receiving Yards TDs
8 83 1

WR – Jalen McMillan (TB)

Week 1
Receptions Receiving Yards TDs
1 32 1

Mike is taking a double-dip of goodness this week, wanting more of both Chris Godwin and Jalen McMillan in the coming weeks. There was plenty of talk over the offseason about Godwin being used differently in 2024 than he was last year, and the Buccaneers made true on that promise. Last season, Godwin lined up more in the slot than out wide in just one game and played just 33% of his snaps in the slot on the season. In Week 1, Godwin played more snaps in the slot (27) than in any single game from 2023, lining up there 55% of the time, and turned it into WR11 finish. If this is any indication of what’s to come for Godwin, he could prove to be a great value for fantasy managers on the year.

The other contributor that’s worth going back for seconds on could be rookie Jalen McMillan. McMillan was on the field more than any other WR for Tampa Bay and while he only reeled in one reception for a TD, his 17.7 average depth of target is encouraging for higher value targets coming his way more consistently.

Both Godwin and McMillan will get another chance to display exactly how good this Buccaneers offense is against a Lions defense that gave up 317 passing yards last week against a Rams team that couldn’t protect the QB. The Fantasy Hitman is putting on his bib to prepare for what could turn into a fantasy feast of an offense moving forward in Tampa.
