Rookie Standouts

Omar Cooper Jr.

New York Jets rookie WR Omar Cooper Jr. returned from IR and had one of the best rookie performances of the season, posting 6/103/1. He played in 82% of snaps and saw a 24% target share in Week 6, and outperformed Garrett Wilson. His Week 7 matchup against AFC East rival Miami Dolphins could be promising, but a battle of two poor offenses could lead to lowered production from both teams.

Germie Bernard

The number one waiver wire pickup of last week, Germie Bernard, has another standout performance. He recorded an average of 10 targets for eight receptions and 83 receiving yards over the past two weeks and has gained Aaron Rodgers‘ trust. Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson’s moves to IR created an opportunity for Bernard, and he took advantage of it. Not all rookie WRs take advantage of situations like these, so Bernard doing it with a veteran QB who has struggled meshing with young WRs in the past is a great sign for Bernard’s dynasty outlook.

Carnell Tate

Cam Ward’s inconsistent play will be an issue for Carnell Tate this season, but Tate has finished as the WR11 in two of the last three weeks. He is currently on pace for 82/974/3, which would be a solid season for a rookie WR on a bad offense. However, dynasty managers would like a little more consistency before getting to the finish line, as Tate has finished as WR40 or worse in the games he did not finish as WR11.

Stock Risers

JJ McCarthy

JJ McCarthy (the artist formerly known as Nine) entered the fourth quarter of Week 6 for the New York Giants and played what may have been the best game of his career, despite only playing in one quarter. McCarthy was announced as New York’s Week 7 starter, and now has the opportunity to face the struggling Houston Texans defense. This performance could be career-altering for McCarthy, as the Texans are still widely regarded as an elite defense on paper. If you believe in the talent, you should buy now, as his value will only skyrocket if he strings together a few solid performances.

Michael Mayer

The Las Vegas Raiders already have their franchise TE in Brock Bowers, so every conversation about Michael Mayer starts there. However, it is time to credit Mayer for what he has done this season, despite playing alongside the best TE in the NFL. Mayer has finished as a top-12 TE in three games this season, a number only matched by Isaiah Likely, Trey McBride, George Kittle, Brock Bowers, and Sam LaPorta. While I do not view Mayer in that class, he has crept into a weekly start. He is sixth in TE receptions, ahead of guys like George Kittle, Tucker Kraft, and Colston Loveland. The only way I can see Mayer’s stock falling at some point this season would be the replacement of Kirk Cousins with Fernando Mendoza.

Stock Fallers

Philadelphia Eagles

There is not one player on the Eagles who benefits from the Jalen Hurts blood clot situation other than backup QB Tanner McKee. Although we were unaware of his status before the London game, I will not hold that performance against him, given the circumstances. Hurts’ stock was already rapidly dropping prior to his diagnosis. He finished as a top-12 QB once in the four games before his trip to London. The man whose fantasy value came from goal-line tush pushes 42 rushing TDs from 2021-2024. However, he scored just one rushing TD over his last 10 games, including the playoffs. Hurts is not a good enough passer to warrant starting in your lineup if there is no rushing floor, and now there is a solid 10-game sample size suggesting that those days may be behind him.

DeVonta Smith, Makai Lemon, Dallas Goedert, and the rest of Philadelphia’s pass-catchers all take a significant dip for the rest of the season. McKee could provide for them, but not as well as a healthy Hurts with a good offensive system around him. Saquon Barkley is more likely to be rested and not rushed back from his hamstring injury, or any potential future issues that may pop up throughout the season. Hopefully Hurts will return in 2027 and look like his normal self, but the risk of this becoming a recurring issue is concerning.

Cam Skattebo

It pains me to say anything negative about former Arizona State Sun Devil Cam Skattebo, but his on-field play has been detrimental to the Giants this season, even if he has been okay for fantasy. He fumbled in four out of five games prior to his Week 6 benching. Fantasy football managers like myself have been begging Mike Vrabel to do the same with Rhamondre Stevenson to clear room for TreVeyon Henderson, so I cannot fault John Harbaugh for his decision to bench Skattebo for this. Skattebo’s fantasy production has been below expectations coming into the season, but given the state of the RB position right now with injuries and poor-performing players around the league, his rest-of-season outlook just depends on how much Harbaugh is willing to trust Skatt, despite his fumbling concerns.

Jordyn Tyson

Adding another former Sun Devil onto the list, Jordyn Tyson makes this week’s stock risers. This has nothing to do with his injury rehab or concerns with Devaughn Vele’s emergence as the New Orleans Saints’ WR2. There are just a lot of rookie WRs whose stock has risen through the first six weeks of the season, and Tyson is still in the same spot that he was six months ago. Carnell Tate, Denzel Boston, Omar Cooper Jr., and Germie Bernard have all had a standout performance and finished as a WR1 at least once this season. If you are not afraid of his recurring injury concerns, now is a great time to buy low and acquire Tyson.

Packers RBs

The imminent return of Josh Jacobs signals the end of an era for the Marshawn Lloyd, Chris Brooks, Kaleb Johnson, and Pierre Strong Jr. backfield. You could never safely predict who would perform best among these RBs. The Green Bay Packers’ offensive line has struggled to start the season, but has greatly improved in the past few weeks to go from on pace for the worst in NFL history to becoming just a regular, bottom-of-the-barrel unit. Jacobs’ rest-of-season outlook will depend on that offensive line, as well as the looming threat of a future suspension.

Prospect Performance

Drew Mestemaker

Oklahoma State QB Drew Mestemaker’s stock has drastically risen throughout this college football season. Last week, he threw for 364 yards and three TDs, while recording 34 rushing yards in a loss to Houston. His name has entered the conversation for the first overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, potentially ahead of Jeremiah Smith. Mestemaker’s potential to be the first QB selected in the 2027 NFL Draft should be taken seriously now, as he is top-10 in passing yards and TDs, but is tied for 11th-most INTs.

Marquee Prospect Matchup

Ole Miss vs Texas

This week’s marquee prospect matchup comes from the SEC, with the Texas Longhorns hosting the Ole Miss Rebels. Arch Manning is becoming an intriguing NFL/fantasy football prospect. The hype has officially worn off, and dynasty managers who were once tanking for Manning have shifted over to Jeremiah Smith. Manning’s WR1, Cam Coleman, could climb above him by the time rookie drafts start in 2027. Ole Miss RB Kewan Lacy could surpass Manning as well, depending on the draft spot for both prospects.
