As we enter the biggest fantasy football draft weekend of the year, the Ballers jumped into a Superflex mock draft as a tune-up. This is the eighth mock draft on the show since May, with each one offering new and valuable information for the people.
While 1QB is the preferred league type of the Ballers, they all agree that it’s fun to play in a variety of formats. The obvious difference between the two is the supply and demand issue of starting QBs. In 12-team leagues, 75% (24 of 32) of starting QBs are relevant on a weekly basis, compared to half of that in Single-QB leagues. This definitely changes the strategy, although maybe not as much as some would think.
It’s August, so Andy, Mike, and Jason are now back to shows FIVE days a week until the end of the season, so make sure to find The Fantasy Footballers Podcast on all of your devices!
This mock draft used the following settings: 12 rounds of 12 teams, 0.5 PPR starting 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1 FLEX, and a SUPERFLEX with four bench spots.
In an exciting turn of events, the three Ballers randomly got a rare back-to-back-to-back situation. Mike got the 1.02, Andy the 1.03, and Jason the 1.04. That’s a good setup for a few snipes.
Round 1
Mike – QB Lamar Jackson (BAL), Andy – QB Jayden Daniels (WAS), Jason – QB Jalen Hurts (PHI)
After Julia took Josh Allen with the 1.01, Mike clicked on Lamar Jackson, who is coming off the overall QB1 season. After Andy said he would’ve taken Jayden Daniels over Jackson due to his minor foot injury, the Ballers discussed the true potential of Daniels to reach the elite status of Allen, Jackson, and Hurts.
The three vets have already shown it, and Daniels still needs to level up to prove he belongs. The second year in Kliff Kingsbury’s system is when Kyler Murray jumped to the overall QB3 in 2020. Daniels certainly has QB1 potential after finishing as the QB5 in his rookie season.
Five QBs went in the first round, including picks one through four. Ja’Marr Chase was the first non-QB off the board at the 1.05.
Round 2
Jason – WR Drake London (ATL), Andy – RB De’von Achane (MIA), Mike – WR A.J. Brown (PHI)
Before the Ballers made their second-round picks, mere seconds after Kyle drafted CMC, the breaking news came through of Brian Robinson Jr. being traded to the 49ers for a future seventh-round pick. After some discussion about the fantasy implications of the trade, the draft resumed. London was the clear pick for Jason. He and A.J. Brown represented the end of the top-10 WRs, with plenty of RBs that he could get in the next round. London won the tiebreak, who is currently banged up. Andy felt the opposite with more WRs in this range that he liked, so he pulled the trigger on Achane, who is dealing with an injury of his own. After Jason passed on the Philly stack, Mike gladly took A.J. Brown.
Round 3
Mike – RB Jonathan Taylor (IND), Andy – QB Baker Mayfield (TB), Jason – RB Bucky Irving (TB)
Jonathan Taylor moved up in Mike’s rankings with the news of Daniel Jones earning the starting job in Indianapolis. Both Mike and Jason have him at RB6. Andy made a strategic move by taking Mayfield in the third, knowing that there were six teams without a QB with two picks before his next turn. Bucky Irving was a “fun pick” for Jason.
Only one QB went in each of rounds two and three.
Round 4
Jason – RB RJ Harvey (DEN), Andy – RB James Cook (BUF), Mike – WR Marvin Harrison Jr. (ARI)
Jason decided to go with Harvey after his “my guy,” George Kittle, went right before. With Harvey comes high risk and high reward. Andy went with the solid James Cook. While due for TD regression, he is the clear starter for one of the best offenses in football. Mike snagged with his highest-ranked WR in Marv.
Round 5
Mike – WR Garrett Wilson (NYJ), Andy – WR DK Metcalf (PIT), Jason – WR Mike Evans (TB)
There was a WR run at the turn, including Garrett Wilson for Mike. Andy clicked Metcalf for his first WR, who he believes will be one of the best picks in 2025, and Jason went with the thousand-yard machine, Mike Evans. Tyreek Hill fell all the way to the 5.10.
Round 6
Jason – WR Devonta Smith (PHI), Andy – WR Emeka Egbuka (TB), Mike – RB Isiah Pacheco (KC)
It was a round of stack completions as Jason got his Philly stack with Smith and Andy pairing Egbuka with Mayfield in Tampa Bay. Based on the current depth chart, Pacheco is shaping up to be the workhorse in KC – a good pick for Mike’s build.
Round 7
Mike – QB Trevor Lawrence (JAX), Andy – TE Tyler Warren (IND), Jason – TE T.J. Hockenson (MIN)
Mike grabbed his second QB in Lawrence, then the first two TEs for the Ballers went in round seven. Much to Kyle’s chagrin, the rookie Warren went to Andy – an important reminder to know your league. And Jason is ready for a “Hock” start from T.J.
Round 8
Jason – QB Michael Penix (ATL), Andy – WR Rashee Rice (KC), Mike – RB Zach Charbonnet (SEA)
Jason wanted Mixon, who he claims has been “falling through the basement into the earth.” Unfortunately, Mixon did not fall far enough. Jason was still thrilled to complete a second stack by pairing Penix with London.
It is unknown how many games Rice will play this season, but when he does, he should return on an eighth-round draft cost. A discussion ensued about Kenneth Walker’s injury risk and potentially ceding work to Charbs in Seattle, making him a value here.
Worth noting: Austin Ekeler went at the 8.12, much higher than ADP, based on the breaking news of the Brian Robinson Jr. trade. A good lesson to learn: when ADP can’t catch up to the news, don’t wait too long to take the beneficiary.
Round 9
Mike – WR Josh Downs (IND), Andy – RB Jordan Mason (MIN), Jason – RB Travis Etienne (JAX)
Mike has been singing the praises of Downs this offseason, whose stock also went up with the Daniel Jones announcement, even with a current hamstring injury. Jordan Mason will have stand-alone value, but also huge upside if Aaron Jones misses time.
Gold can often be mined in ambiguous backfields. Jacksonville is one of those situations, and Etienne should be the pass-catching back for Liam Coen. Andy and Mike aren’t thrilled by this pick. “Bill” Croskey-Merritt, who can “kill two stones with one bird,” went at the 9.09.
Round 10
Jason – RB Cam Skattebo (NYG), Andy – WR Keon Coleman (BUF), Mike – TE Tucker Kraft (GB)
Jason went with another high-risk, high-reward player in Skattebo. Andy had another minor draft SNAFU before selecting Coleman. Reports out of Buffalo have been that he is a different player than last year’s disappointing rookie season. Mike got his guy, Tucker Kraft, because he was “not willing to risk it.” Julia took a TE next, so he probably made the right decision.
Round 11
Mike – QB Geno Smith (LV), Andy – QB Matthew Stafford (LAR), Jason – QB Aaron Rodgers (PIT)
All three Ballers grabbed their third QB in the draft in round 11. Mike chose first, and the deciding factor between Rodgers, Smith, and Stafford came down to a “fully functioning vertebrae.”
Round 12
Jason – WR Cedric Tillman (CLE), Andy – WR Chris Godwin (TB), Mike – RB Nick Chubb (HOU)
Jason passed on the injured Godwin to take Tillman, citing the headache of having two TB WRs on the same team. Andy then scooped up Godwin, noting that it’s a headache he’s willing to deal with. Mike finished out his draft with an insurance back by the name of Nicholas Chubb, who might be called upon early in Houston.
