The Fantasy Footballers: Mock Draft Podcast Recap August 2025 (Fantasy Football)

Dec 15, 2024; Houston, Texas, USA; Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins (12) smiles after the game against the Miami Dolphins at NRG Stadium.

In the heart of training camps and the beginning of preseason action, there’s no better time to start getting in some mock drafts. For most of the fantasy community, real drafts start in just a few weeks, so it’s important to formulate your draft strategies, practice from different spots, and see where players you have your eye on are being selected. Mock drafting is one of the key ways to get yourself better prepared for the real deal.

The Fantasy Footballers, as always, want to help you reach the ultimate goal of a fantasy championship. So in this August edition of the Footballers mock draft, Andy, Mike, and Jason take you through their thought process as they make their way through one of the last mock drafts before it’s time to strap in.

It just so happens that for this mock draft, Andy landed the first pick, Jason snagged the 12th pick, and Mike selected from the 10th spot, giving us an inside look at how things can shake out from both ends of the draft.

This mock draft used the following settings: 12 teams starting 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, and a FLEX, with four bench spots and full-PPR.

Round 1

Andy – Ja’Marr ChaseMike – Nico CollinsJason – Derrick Henry

Andy didn’t delay in selecting Ja’Marr Chase with the first overall pick, doing so while the fellas were talking about a mock draft they did a few months prior, where they had similar draft positions. Unfortunately for Mike, Christian McCaffrey wasn’t available at the 1.10, so he went with one of his top 5 WRs in Nico Collins. At the turn, Jason flirted with the idea of going WR-WR or RB-RB, but instead wanted flexibility, selecting Derrick Henry and Malik Nabers.

Round 2

Andy – Trey McBride, Mike – De’Von AchaneJason – Malik Nabers

With Nabers off the board and Kyle taking Puka Nacua, Mike went for De’Von Achane to give him flexibility with a WR-RB start. Mike was willing to take Nacua as his WR2, but the decision was made easier for him. Andy hadn’t taken one of the premier TEs in any mocks so far, so he decided to test a different build with Trey McBride at the 2.12.

Round 3

Andy – Omarion Hampton, Mike – Mike Evans, Jason – Josh Allen

Leading up to Andy’s back-to-back selections, a handful of RBs were drafted, representing a tier break in the RBs left. With that, Andy chose an RB with a ton of upside to start the third round in Omarion Hampton. Mike liked the value of Tyreek Hill at the 3.10, but already having drafted Achane, didn’t want to go all in on the Miami Dolphins with two out of his first three picks. He also would have taken George Kittle, who was drafted the spot before him, so he went with Mike Evans, who is a spot behind Hill in his rankings. Jason hasn’t drafted Josh Allen previously and felt his value was worth a selection at the 3/4 turn.

Round 4

Andy – Joe Mixon, Mike – Kenneth Walker III, Jason – DK Metcalf

On the way back in the fourth round, Jason landed on DK Metcalf after lamenting the fact that Mike snagged Mike Evans a couple of picks before, who he was eyeing. Mike didn’t hesitate to take his guy Kenneth Walker at the 4.03. Andy went with a pair of Joes entering the 4/5 turn, first taking Joe Mixon, followed by Joe Burrow.

Round 5

Andy – Joe Burrow, Mike – Tetairoa McMillanJason – Kaleb Johnson

Even though Jayden Daniels was still on the board, Andy completed the Bengals stack, which could very easily be the highest-scoring stack in fantasy football this season. Looking at his rankings, Mike was hoping for George Pickens to be available at the 5.10, but he went a few picks earlier. Instead, he went with the upside pick of Tetairoa McMillan, which Jason said wouldn’t have made it back to him in the sixth round. Kyle also shared his frustration via the company Slack because he wanted McMillan as well. Jason continued the drumbeat for his guy Kaleb Johnson, taking him to end the fifth round.

Round 6

Andy – J.K. Dobbins, Mike – Isiah PachecoJason – Rashee Rice

With Kaleb Johnson locked in as Jason’s RB2, he continued his approach of maybe starting the season slow but eyeing a championship with high-upside players, taking Rashee Rice to start the sixth round. Mike also had his eye on a Kansas City Chief, between Isiah Pacheco and Xavier Worthy, drafting the former. Andy took J.K. Dobbins, the highest he’s gone in any mock draft so far.

Round 7

Andy – Emeka Egbuka, Mike – Josh Downs, Jason – Jordan Mason

Andy went with Emeka Egbuka at the top of the seventh round, amidst Jason’s soliloquy on taking the players you want when you are at the turn, even if it’s way before their ADP. To Jason’s dismay, Andy took two players, Dobbins and Egbuka, that Jason had in his queue. Mike continued his RB to WR pattern by taking a player he has been talking about a lot in the offseason, Josh Downs. Jason closed the seventh round with Jordan Mason to solidify his RB room.

Round 8

Andy – Keenan Allen, Mike – Sam LaPorta, Jason – Jayden Higgins

Jason, who wanted Egbuka, landed on another rookie wideout in Jayden Higgins to begin the eighth round. Mike got great value at the 8.03 with TE Sam LaPorta. Celebrating Keenan Allen‘s recent signing with his former team in Los Angeles, Andy took the veteran WR to close the round.

Round 9

Andy – Chris Godwin, Mike – Luther Burden III, Jason – Rhamondre Stevenson

Adding to his WR depth, Andy drafted Chris Godwin to pair with Egbuka in a Tampa Bay offense that he loves. Mike looked at some QBs with his third-to-last pick, but instead added an upside player in Luther Burden III. Needing more RB depth, Jason went with Rhamondre Stevenson, who he believes will still be heavily involved in an up-and-coming offense.

Round 10

Andy – Brandon Aiyuk, Mike – Dak Prescott, Jason – David Njoku

Following his usual strategy of taking a late-round TE, Jason went with David Njoku after deciding between him and Tyler Warren. One of the few teams left without a QB, Mike took Dak Prescott according to his rankings. Andy drafted Brandon Aiyuk, prompting Mike to call his squad “Team Waiver Wire,” with Andy likely having to put Aiyuk and possibly Godwin on the IR and grab players off waivers.

Round 11

Andy – Nick Chubb, Mike – Jordan Love, Jason – Austin Ekeler

Andy took Nick Chubb to round out his draft for added insurance, since he also has Mixon. Having secured Prescott the round prior, Mike decided to draft another QB who he believes has the potential to leapfrog into the top five at the position with Jordan Love. To finish the draft, Jason wanted another RB he believes he can plug in early in the season as Johnson ramps up his work, targeting ambiguous backfields on good offenses with Austin Ekeler.
